A new OpenAI model, in training since August 28, has produced a proposed solution to a Millennium Prize Problem. Its own researchers sound stunned.

This OpenAI's latest math claim comes from a model the public has never used.


Yesterday, we covered the rumors. Now OpenAI has published the proof: its internal AI system claims to have resolved the long-standing Navier–Stokes problem, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems carrying a $1 million prize.

What makes this especially wild is the timeline. OpenAI says training for the new model began on August 28, and the system tackled the problem just days later. Around 10,000 AI agents worked together for roughly 88 hours, with the result then formally verified in Lean.

The bigger story, though, may be what this says about the pace of AI progress. Even the researchers building these systems say the results arrived sooner than they expected.
