A US company has introduced a new AI-powered robot designed to be a companion, and it could be the answer to a growing loneliness problem. The robot, called Aria, made a splash at the CES tech conference in Las Vegas this week. Aria looks like a lifelike human and can hold conversations, making her seem more real than ever.

Andrew Kiguel, the CEO of Realbotix, talked about how the robots could help people feel less lonely. He said that while some robots are made for work or physical tasks, their main goal is to offer companionship. Aria, for example, can learn about you and form a bond that feels personal, almost like a real friendship.

The robots don't do things like cleaning or chores, but they can talk to you and even act like a boyfriend or girlfriend. The idea is to create a meaningful connection, especially in a world where loneliness is becoming a bigger issue for many.

Realbotix has also rolled out a new robot named Melody. She can track movement, make eye contact, and identify objects around her. Plus, she's portable—her parts can be packed into a suitcase for easy transport.

Prices for these robots range from around £8,000 for a basic bust with facial expressions, to £120,000 for a more advanced version with arms and fingers. The full-bodied, interactive robot like Aria, which can move and respond in more lifelike ways, costs £160,000. Users can even customize the robot's face to look like a celebrity or someone else they admire.

It's an interesting idea—robots that don't replace humans but help fill the gaps where companionship is needed most.
